"Is this a trade or industry seal?" How do I distinguish a legitimate seal from a marketing label?
It's normal to have that doubt. The important thing is to focus on three things:
- If welfare is assessed using observable indicators in animals,
- if there are periodic audits (including unannounced visits), and
- whether there are real consequences when it is not complied with (corrections, suspension or withdrawal).
What is “welfare washing”?
It's a term used to criticize messages or initiatives that promote animal welfare without a real and verifiable basis. As a consumer, the useful question is: Is there actual measurement of animal welfare, independent audits, and are there consequences for non-compliance?
If I see a worrying case or believe that a product with a seal shouldn't have it, what can I do?
You can report it by providing the product details (brand, batch number, date, and point of purchase). Each case is analyzed, and if necessary, the system's control mechanisms are activated: help@animalwelfair. Com.
Do producers get certified to use the seal as a marketing tool for their products?
Not necessarily. Certification WelfairThe ® seal aims to measure animal welfare using scientific criteria and help improve production systems. Use of the seal on labels is voluntary and depends on each company's decision.
